Our trip to Louisville KY was pretty whirlwind but all in all we had a good time. I was very grateful to be hosted by Master Stephen and slave kim. They always make us feel like home away from home. After a fun time Friday night visiting the Fringe in their new location we were up bright and early to see the Maker’s Mark Distillery and have a tour and tasting. Which always of course ends up in their gift shop, go figure. Saturday late afternoon Master and i presented our Coping with Disabilities in a M/s relationship. This class always fills me with a lot of anxiety beforehand because it is a very personal and intimate discussion. It’s getting better over time though.
The presenting trip to Louisville was the only trip planned for in December, so I decided to indulge a bit and visit the distillery of one of my favorite bourbon’s – Maker’s Mark. We ran into some winter weather in Indianapolis, but managed to make it to Louisville in one piece. The weather did keep us from visiting Bella the Bootblack (IMsBB 2013) – BOO!
We took a side trip to visit friends at the newly relocated Fringe. I love it! I liked the previous location of the Fringe, but this new location is very big, a lot of potential and it has a nice amount of “sleazy neighborhood” with strip clubs and other places of ill-repute nearby. Makes me feel like home – the old Leather Rose of Chicago always had a sleazy, slightly dirty feel to it, so this was just fun. The Fringe’s new location will work out very well for them and I hope they can stay there for a while.
The trip to the distillery on Saturday took us through some amazing and CRAZY back roads of Kentucky. Google didn’t just take us on the main roads, nope, at one point, we were on a one lane country road and it felt like the middle of nowhere. I only wish we had been on the Harley, it would have been a helluva ride. The tour at the distillery itself was fun! The old buildings of the original distillery, still in use, were decorated for Christmas. I love the smells of the mash and they let us taste it while it was fermenting. I bought a bottle of their distilled product (basically moonshine cut down to 45 proof) and got to dip it myself.
Master Steven and slave kim hosted us at their house so we could present on Ms Dynamics w/Disabilities and Health Issues. This is always a very personal topic for both of us, and this time was no different. Very engaged and supportive group of folks showed up. I’m always blown away by how people will share their time to share/learn/teach with us. It still feels like a privilege. I always learn something about myself in teaching others, and I realized this time how deeply the Aspergers affects my listening skills and what I hear from others.
The trip back, we stopped by to visit with Lynn, Great Lakes Ms. Leather. She’s really funny and we found out that we share similar jobs, that was nice! It was a nice chance to sit and get to know one of our title-family members a bit more.
Now comes a nice pause in travel for the holidays and then a trip to Indianapolis for a MAsT meeting. We’re busy preparing for SPLF which is in a little less than 3 months!!!
